The UbiComp/ISWC 2023 Conference is opening a call for students and more senior researchers to join the organizing committee as JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Ambassadors. Our goal is to make UbiComp/ISWC 2023 accessible and inclusive for anyone who would like to attend.

Our commitment to JEDI could not be a reality without our dedicated JEDI Chairs Jennifer Rode (Accessibility, Gender Equity), Luis Castro (Family Initiatives), Temiloluwa Prioleau (Diversity and Inclusion), and our Broadening Participation Chair Afra Mashhadi. Together they are already working on providing comprehensive information about Accessibility in Cancun, they have implemented a number of initiatives to broaden diverse participation, and are working on family, equity, and diversity support at the conference attendees.

We are now calling to additional members of the UbiComp/ISWC community who would like to join in and help us ensure that JEDI principles, local initiatives, as well as practical accommodations will be implemented. JEDI Ambassadors will directly assist our JEDI and Broadening Participation Chairs on site during the conference in Cancun, Mexico October 8-12, 2023, and act as a liaison to the Student Volunteers for JEDI-specific matters.

JEDI Ambassadors will be selected by the organizing committee based on their commitment and aspirations to JEDI, and their willingness and availability to be actively involved in JEDI initiatives during the conference.

As acknowledgment of the time and energy put into helping the organizing committee, JEDI Ambassadors will receive the following benefits:

• Paid Hotel Accommodation in shared room
• Food and drink during the conference
• An exclusive JEDI Ambassador t-shirt
• Unique opportunities to meet and network with members of the community
• Join the “Thank You” SV Party

JEDI Ambassadors are expected to be on call throughout the conference, be available for the pre-conference (Oct 8-9), and the main conference (Oct 10-12), and assist on a daily basis for at least 2.5 hours the JEDI and Broadening Participation Chairs. JEDI Ambassadors will also be required to join the Pre-Conference SV orientation (Oct 7, 2023) to coordinate with the SV chairs on JEDI activities.

Note: While travel expenses are NOT included in the benefits, you can apply for travel grants, such as the Gary Marsden, or similar grants through your University. More information about UbiComp/ISWC travel grants are posted on the conference website.
