Sensory Rooms to Support All Attendees

September 18th, 2023|

UbiComp/ISWC 2023 will provide three Sensory Rooms to support attendees who have additional needs to support neurodivergence, disability or religious practices.

We have created a special place composed by:

  • The Silence Room
  • The Quiet Room
  • The Chill Room

Neurodivergence, especially autism, requires differing levels of stimulation for different people. Sometimes, a completely silent space is required for de-stimulation, whereas sometimes space is required to fidget and spend excess energy. Our Sensory Rooms will provide that. We hope that the three rooms will allow the space needed to fully enjoy the conference for all attendees.

More information is available on our dedicated page about the UbiComp/ISWC Sensory Rooms.

Families and Children Initiatives

September 16th, 2023|

If you are planning to bring your little ones to Cancun for UbiComp/ISWC 2023, we have just released the final information about how we will support families!

Families will be able to book childcare services at special rates at their hotel and at the Cancun Center, and children will be allowed to accompanying their parents or caregiver for the whole duration of the conference, including at the Gala Dinner. We created a special space at the Cancun Center, the Family Room, equipped to support children, as well as parents and caregivers, and we will stream the conference tracks in that room, so that attendees will not have to miss any part of our program. If you are taking a caregiver with you, that will also be supported.

Take a look at all the details on our Families and Children dedicate page.

Family Room and Sensory Rooms at UbiComp/ISWC 2023

August 10th, 2023|

As part of our JEDI Initiatives, we are happy to announce that UbiComp/ISWC 2023 will have dedicated space for families in our Family room, and a separate set of Sensory Rooms where people can unwind, relax and take a break.

The Family Room will feature spaces for breast feeding, changing babies, as well as space to hangout for kids who are going to attend with attendees. Sessions from the main conference will be streamed in the room, so that attendees needing to leave the main session can still follow the program. We are also considering having dedicated supervision / nanny services in the room.

The Sensory Rooms will be divided in 3 spaces – the Silent, Quiet, and Chill rooms, and will all feature different sensory experience with low lighting, and relaxing music, lounge-style ambience, and light drinks and food for people who need to take a break from the madness of the conference.

More details for both the Family Room and the Sensory Rooms will be released soon. For more information please reach out to our JEDI chairs at jedi-2023@ubicomp.org.

UbiComp / ISWC

Past Conferences

The ACM international joint conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) is the result of a merger of the two most renowned conferences in the field: Pervasive and UbiComp. While it retains the name of the latter in recognition of the visionary work of Mark Weiser, its long name reflects the dual history of the new event.

The ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computing (ISWC) discusses novel results in all aspects of wearable computing, and has been colocated with UbiComp and Pervasive since 2013.

A complete list of UbiComp, Pervasive, and ISWC past conferences is provided below.
