UbiComp / ISWC 2025
Call for Tutorial Proposals

Submission Deadline: April 30, 2025

UbiComp/ISWC 2025 invite proposals for the Tutorials program of the 2025 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) and the 2025 International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC). Tutorials may consist of interactive sessions, hands-on training, hackathons, plugfests, demo jams, breakout sessions, or any combination of the above. Tutorials should be of interest to a substantial part of the Ubicomp audience and represent a sufficiently mature area of research or practice.

All Tutorials will be held, together with Workshops, before the main conference on October 12 and 13, 2025. The main conference takes place on October 14-16, 2025.

The goal of tutorials is to solicit knowledge transfer, provide  opportunities to learn new skills or practices, and disseminate practical knowledge in an interactive, hands-on way. Proposals from industry and open source projects are especially encouraged. Activities that aim to gather a group of researchers for a focused activity, such as hands-on prototyping or joint development of a cross-disciplinary research agenda, should be submitted as workshops (see the call for workshops). Like any other UbiComp/ISWC 2025 track, tutorials will be in-person only.

Pre-Proposal Submissions Inquiries

Should you wish to discuss ideas for a tutorial proposal before the submission deadline, feel free to contact the Chairs of the Workshops and Tutorials Program at workshops-2025@ubicomp.org.

Tutorial Proposal Content

The proposal should be prepared as a document of no more than four pages (including any reference) following the 2-column template following the IMWUT  instructions.

The proposal must describe:

  • The topic, rationale, and objectives for the tutorial
  • The organisers’ backgrounds; we recommend that every tutorial has at least two instructions for participating in the conference.
  • An estimate of expected attendance (and whether participation will be limited) and prerequisites for the participants (skills and experiences, such as certain programming languages)
  • A detailed plan for conducting the tutorial (including any plans for pre-tutorial preparation and/or post-tutorial follow-up): content and schedule, description of learning outcomes, tutorial format, learning methods and models
  • Tutorial material: if applicable, description of the hardware and software used for the tutorial. Will the software be openly accessible to the participants? With what licence? What do participants need to bring for the tutorial? Please note that the conference cannot provide technical support and any special resources out of normal conference room settings

Some guiding questions:

  • What is the objective of the tutorial, and how is it achieved?
  • What new skills or practices the participants are going to learn?
  • Why should this tutorial be a part of UbiComp/ISWC 2025?
  • How will it make an impact on the community?
  • What activities are planned during the tutorial?
  • What is the planned schedule and proposed duration (e.g. hor many hours, half day, or full day)?

Upon acceptance, the submitted tutorial proposal is expected to be revised and adapted for inclusion in the Adjunct Proceedings and ACM Digital Library.

Proposal Submission

The deadline for submission is April 30, 2025, AoE. The submission should be a single PDF file that includes the proposal (max. 4 pages, in 2-columns, including any reference). Please start the title line of your proposal as “Tutorial:”.

Submissions can be made via PCS at http://new.precisionconference.com/sigchi.

On the submissions tab, please select SIGCHI society, the UbiComp/ISWC 2025 conference, and the “UbiComp/ISWC 2025 Workshops Proposals” track.

Past Conferences

The ACM international joint conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) is the result of a merger of the two most renowned conferences in the field: Pervasive and UbiComp. While it retains the name of the latter in recognition of the visionary work of Mark Weiser, its long name reflects the dual history of the new event.

The ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computing (ISWC) discusses novel results in all aspects of wearable computing, and has been colocated with UbiComp and Pervasive since 2013.

A complete list of UbiComp, Pervasive, and ISWC past conferences is provided below.
