UbiComp / ISWC 2026
Call for Tutorial Proposals
Submission Deadline: May 7, 2026
UbiComp/ISWC 2026 invite proposals for the Tutorials program of the 2026 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) and the 2026 International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC). Tutorials may consist of interactive sessions, hands-on training, hackathons, plugfests, demo jams, breakout sessions, or any combination of the above. Tutorials should be of interest to the UbiComp/ISWC audience. We especially encourage tutorials covering emerging and exciting topics.
All Tutorials will be held, together with Workshops, before the main conference on October 11 and 12, 2026. The main conference takes place on October 13-15, 2026.
The goal of tutorials is to solicit knowledge transfer, provide opportunities to learn new skills or practices, and disseminate practical knowledge in an interactive, hands-on way. Proposals from industry and open source projects are especially encouraged. Like any other UbiComp/ISWC 2026 track, tutorials will be in-person only.
Pre-Proposal Submissions Inquiries
Should you wish to discuss ideas for a tutorial proposal before the submission deadline, feel free to contact the Chairs of the Tutorials Program at tutorial-2026@ubicomp.org.
Tutorial Proposal Content
The proposal should be prepared as a document of no more than four pages (including any reference) following the 2-column template in the UbiComp/ISWC instructions. Submitted proposals do not need to be anonymized.
The proposal must describe:
- The topic, rationale, and objectives for the tutorial
- The organisers’ backgrounds; we recommend that every tutorial has at least two organizers who will participate as instructors for the tutorial during the conference.
- An estimate of expected attendance (and whether participation will be limited) and prerequisites for the participants (skills and experiences, such as certain programming languages)
- A detailed plan for conducting the tutorial (including any plans for pre-tutorial preparation and/or post-tutorial follow-up): content and schedule, description of learning outcomes, tutorial format, learning methods and models
- Tutorial material: if applicable, description of the hardware and software used for the tutorial. Will the software be openly accessible to the participants? With what licence? What do participants need to bring for the tutorial? Please note that the conference cannot provide technical support and any special resources out of normal conference room settings
Some guiding questions:
- What is the objective of the tutorial, and how is it achieved?
- What new skills or practices the participants are going to learn?
- Why should this tutorial be a part of UbiComp/ISWC 2026?
- How will it make an impact on the community?
- What activities are planned during the tutorial?
- What is the planned schedule and proposed duration (e.g., a half day or full day)?
Upon acceptance, the submitted tutorial proposal is expected to be revised and adapted for inclusion in the Adjunct Proceedings and ACM Digital Library.
Example Topics for Tutorials
- Vibe prototyping: a hackathon and discussion of different iteration strategies
- LLMs as sense-making engines
- Privacy, fairness, and robustness in evaluating human-centered sensing
- Federated and edge learning
-
Machine learning for sensing health and well-being outcomes
-
Software demos covering work from recent, impactful papers
