What is Ubicomp 2007?

The 10th International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp 2008) will be in Seoul, South Korea, September 21-24, 2008. Check http://www.ubicomp.org/ubicomp2008/ for more.

Ubiquitous Computing refers to the trend that we as humans interact no longer with one computer at a time, but rather with a dynamic set of small networked computers, often invisible and embodied in everyday objects in the environment.

The Ubiquitous Computing Conference Series provides the premier forum in which to present research results in all areas relating to the design, implementation, application and evaluation of ubiquitous computing technologies, bringing together leading researchers from a variety of disciplines and geographical areas who are exploring the frontiers of computing as it moves beyond the desktop and becomes increasingly interwoven into the fabrics of our lives.

After Tokyo in 2005 and Orange County California in 2006, the 9th International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp 2007) will come for four days to Innsbruck in Tyrol, Austria in September 2007.

Scope and Research Focus

The research output in form of presentations, papers, posters and demonstration sessions expected at UbiComp 2007 will traditionally include contributions on all topics related to ubiquitous computing:

  • tools and techniques for designing, implementing, & evaluating ubiquitous computing systems
  • mobile, wireless, and ad hoc networking infrastructures for ubiquitous computing
  • laboratory and in situ studies of ubiquitous computing technologies in use
  • location-aware and context-based systems for ubiquitous computing
  • privacy, security, and trust in ubiquitous and pervasive systems.
Additionally, particularly motivated by the background of the local organizer, we expect valuable contributions coming from the Semantic Web and Semantic Web services research communities in order to present the added value of Semantic Systems for ubiquitous computing research activities.

Moreover the UbiComp conference series has traditionally had a strong workshop program. Workshops allow small groups to gather for intensive discussion around focused topics of interest. The goal of the workshops is to share understandings and experiences, to foster research communities, to learn from each other and to envision future directions.

UbiComp 2007 will introduce a new instrument to promote and encourage high quality research in the area of UbiComp: The UbiComp Challenge. It is a field test intended to accelerate research, development and applicability of UbiComp technology.
