Full-time, 12 month fixed term position
$84,939 - $100,867 p.a + super
About the position and the project.
This position is embedded in iCO2mmunity smart and sustainable campus
project, funded by RMIT and Siemens Sustainable Urban Precinct
Program. We are currently seeking to appoint an outstanding early
career researcher to carry out research and support research aims in
the areas of mobile and pervasive computing, indoor localization,
activity recognition, and related context-aware computing techniques.
The appointee will also investigate the expansion of human sensing, in
particular investigating machine learning and data mining techniques
for wearable-based and device-free activity recognition, and big data
analysis across heterogeneous sensors for human mobility monitoring
and context-aware recommendation. The appointee will have access to a
rich suite of smartphones, wearables, sensors, and wireless
technologies for experimentations and testing. The appointee will also
have the opportunity to collaborate with excellent PhD candidates
working on the project.
About the Research Environment.
RMIT's School of Computer Science and Information Technology is one of
Australia's largest schools. The School is home to world class
research in the areas of search, databases, service computing, AI, and
distributed and cloud computing. Our research work has been supported
by numerous research grants including, the Australian Research Council
(ARC), Local and State Governments, Google, Yahoo, DSTO, CSIRO, Qatar
Foundation, the European Union, etc. In addition to highly cited
researchers, the school is home to 1 ACM and 2 IEEE Fellows. The
school has more than 90 PhD students and prides itself on the quality
of its graduates, achieved through programs that have a strong
emphasis on both theory and practice, and seeks to make a significant
contribution to computing and IT education and research.
About the Principal Investigator of the project.
Dr. Flora Salim is a Lecturer at the School of Computer Science and
Information Technology, RMIT University. She obtained her PhD in
Computer Science from Monash University in 2009. She’s interested in
many areas of mobile, pervasive, and urban computing research. In
particular, she’s been researching into the following topics:
context-aware computing and services, context-sensing, place sensing,
activity recognition, spatiotemporal data analysis, trajectory
analysis, and time-series data mining. She has secured grants from
Australian Research Council, IBM Smarter Cities Lab, Australian Urban
Research Infrastructure Network, RMIT, and several industry partners.
