ACM Transactions on Internet of Things
Special issue on LLM Empowered Internet of Things
In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, the Internet of
Things (IoT) has emerged as a transformative force, connecting
billions of devices and systems across various sectors. This
integration paves the way for innovative applications that were once
merely theoretical. As IoT continues to expand, the need for advanced
computational models, which can effectively process and analyze the
vast amount of data generated by these interconnected devices, becomes
increasingly critical.
The field of Large Language Models (LLMs) has made significant strides
in recent years, demonstrating remarkable capabilities in natural
language processing, data analysis, and decision-making. Integrating
LLMs into IoT systems can potentially revolutionize how devices sense,
communicate, and interact, leading to more intelligent, responsive,
and autonomous systems.
This special issue of the Transactions on Internet of Things is
dedicated to exploring the tight intersection of LLMs and IoT. We aim
to bring together the latest research and developments in this
exciting area, showcasing how LLMs can be leveraged to enhance IoT
systems and applications across various areas such as sensing,
communication and interaction in various applications such as smart
cities, healthcare, agriculture, and industrial Internet.
Topics
The articles in this issue will cover a wide range of topics,
including but not limited to:
• LLM inference and fine tuning on IoT devices such as Raspberry Pi,
NVIDIA Jetson, etc.
• LLM empowered IoT data processing and analysis for Internet of Things.
• LLM empowered IoT communication, e.g., in modulation, decoding and
protocol design.
• LLM empowered sensing including IMU, WiFi, millimeter-wave, etc.
• Distributed and collaborative inference and fine tuning for the
device-edge-cloud continuum.
• Low-code or zero-code IoT programming using LLM.
• Security and privacy issues posed by LLMs in IoT environments.
• Real-world examples of LLMs in IoT applications (such as smart
cities, healthcare, agriculture, and industrial Internet),
highlighting the unique successes and challenges.
We invite researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts to contribute
their insights and findings to this special issue, fostering a deeper
understanding of the potential and challenges of integrating LLMs into
the IoT landscape.

Submission Information
Submissions to this special issue should follow the TIOT author
guidelines found at https://dl.acm.org/journal/tiot/author-guidelines
Please submit your paper via Manuscript Central at
https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tiot. Please select the paper type

Empowered Internet of Things in your cover letter.
Virtual Event
A public and free virtual event around the theme of the special issue,
with talks for each of the accepted papers, will take place after
these are selected and available online. This virtual event will be a
unique opportunity for both authors and readers to discuss their
research beyond what normally allowed by the archival journal
publication alone. Further details about the event will be publicly
advertised at a later stage.
