Human-information interaction (HII) has become increasingly ubiquitous. Wearable and mobile devices offer swift access to information and means to understand the user experience when interacting with information (i.e., through physiological sensing). While it is crucial to understand and improve the user experience in HII, several challenges remain from a ubiquitous computing perspective, such as the definition discrepancy of cognitive activities involved in HII and the lack of standard practice for experimental task design and physiological methods to measure cognitive activities during the interaction.

We invite researchers, practitioners, and thinkers interested in the information-interaction aspect of ubiquitous computing to participate in this workshop, where we seek to form a shared understanding and community standards for quantifying the cognitive aspects of user experience in HII. This half-day, in-person workshop will feature interactive activities, including hands-on tutorials, lighting talks, keynote speeches, and group activities. Even if you are new to the area, please don’t hesitate and join this workshop and explore how ubiquitous technologies can quantify and improve the user experience in HII.

This APhyMeHII Workshop will take place on Saturday, 5th October, in concurrence with UbiComp/ISWC 2024 in Melbourne, Australia. To participate in this workshop, please register at https://www.ubicomp.org/ubicomp-iswc-2024/attending/registration/. Our workshop code is UBC24-W04.
