The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to work within the research team from RMIT, with Dr. Flora Salim and Dr. Yongli Ren, in collaboration with Prof Cecilia Mascolo from University of Cambridge and Prof Charlie Clarke from University of Waterloo, on the Australian Research Council Discovery project "Multi-resolution Situation Recognition for Urban-Aware Smart Assistant". This project will develop a new situation recognition and recommender systems framework that is resilient to urban disruptions.
Skills & Experience
You will have:
* Emerging track record for high quality research outputs which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas
* Demonstrated experience in the following areas: machine learning, time-series, spatio-temporal data mining.
* Relevant publications in high quality Q1 peer reviewed journals and track records in A/A* conferences ranked by CORE in AI and machine learning, ubiquitous / pervasive / mobile computing.
* Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry.
* Hold a PhD in Computer Science.
The position will be embedded in the RMIT Context Recognition and Urban Intelligence (CRUISE) group, led by Flora Salim, a part of the RMIT Centre for Information Discovery and Data Analytics (CIDDA).

CIDDA research staff tackle both the technical challenges posed by the volume and complexity of this data, as well as the human and organizational challenge of interacting and making sense of such data. CIDDA staff collaborate with partners in industry, government, and scientific organizations to investigate significant challenges in society and business, and help create value for Australia through new insights and innovations driven by turning massive data collections into knowledge.
The centre has 24 academic members, 6 postdocs, and close to 80 PhD students.

The key members of the centre are among the chief and partner investigators of the new ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision Making and Society, to commence in 2020, for 7 years, administered by RMIT University.
