JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS:

A doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related discipline suitable to Computer Science & Information Systems (CSIS) and extensive experience in research and teaching in a domain encompassing the priority areas CSIS/Lero, with demonstrated impact in at least one area. 

The teaching experience and research activities of applicants should have a strong emphasis on both innovative software design and development, as well as their applications, ideally extending the current strategic priority domains of CSIS/Lero.

Research interests are sought to cover 2 or more of the following:

-  continuous engineering of software intensive systems and applications, including evolving systems, autonomous systems, self-* and adaptive technologies

-   software development process and optimization, including requirements engineering, agile, lean and open source development, co-development in ecosystems

-  scientific workflows and data science, including big data and automated workflow synthesis

-  high assurance systems, including model-driven design, formal verification methods, machine and automata learning for model extraction (high assurance systems include security/safety-critical systems)

-  interaction design and interactive media, including data visualisation and analysis, Computer- Supported Cooperative Work

Suitable application areas include IT-supported healthcare and medical systems; bio-and pharma research and manufacturing; communication and transportation systems; smart spaces (buildings, cities and regions); arts, media and cultural heritage; policy and government.


Expected teaching will span software modelling and design and their applications (driven by research), in a broad range of collaborations. Ability to and experience of blended and distance teaching are desirable.


OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

The post holder will work as a member of the team responsible for developing, managing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems. The post holder will strengthen the interdisciplinary orientation of the Department, contributing to the establishment and development of interdisciplinary program and research projects, possibly in conjunction with the HRI.

The post holder will also be expected to make a substantial contribution to the research culture and research output of the Department and of Lero, possibly enriching their span beyond the current areas of expertise.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have:

• A doctoral degree (level 10NFQ) in Computer Science or a related discipline suitable to CSIS
• Extensive research experience in a domain encompassing the priority areas CSIS/Lero, with demonstrated impact in at least one area.
• Extensive experience of teaching undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate students
• Demonstrated knowledge of techniques and methods for software design and development
• Active research and publication record in a relevant area commensurate with the level of this post


DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS 

Experience in the following will be an advantage:

• Course development and course management, including conversion courses
• Supervision of research students to PhD level


An applicant should include a:

• Research and Impact plan (up to 3 pages in length) describing the autonomous research that the candidate would envisage undertaking in the specific UL/Lero/HRI environment if offered the position outlining its impact
• Teaching plan (up to two pages in length) detailing how the candidate would contribute to teaching and learning in the specific UL/Lero/HRI environment if offered the position.
